Every designer's dream right?
It's hard and my goodness don't we know it! But there's a secret!
……. and it can be explained in one word - "planning".
We know what you're thinking….. "You can't just turn ON creativity, so how on earth can I plan it"?
You're right. You can't just turn on creativity and for some of us, we work best at 2, 3, hell, maybe even 4am. If that's you, you're amazing, we don't know how you do it.
Our point, is that everyone is different and everyone therefore works differently. Yes, you can't PLAN creativity but you CAN plan everything else that goes on around it. You CAN optimise your design time so you can get enough sleep. And that's what's most important for all creatives right? Sleep - a sacred time for the body and mind to refresh and recharge.
So! Our 3 top tips for designers who want to get enough sleep!
- Prepare your day the night before. We love list making and we have at least 5 or 6 lists on the go continuously; our most important list being the one we made the night before. It outlines all of the important things that need to be done the next day, so in the morning we wake up refreshed and have a P.O.A! (….plan of action).
- Wake up and do some exercise! It doesn't have to be a 10k run but if that's your bag, then by all means do it. We do yoga here. It works up a sweat, detoxes the body and sends fresh blood to the brain, meaning you are working at an optimal level from the moment you sit down to start your day. Exercise in the morning has also been proven to help you sleep better at night. So try it and see how you feel.
- Track your time! It's so easy to get a little distracted - especially with the likes of Pinterest or Facebook. Try using a "tracking app" to see how much time you spend on various websites and apps during your day. You might be surprised! As they say, you can't change what you don't know. So get to know your habits. If you do need that "social media splurge" - plan it into your day. Get organised so you can optimise the precious time you have.
Voila! That's about it for the moment. Give these a go - they may work for you, they may not. If you have anymore tips, do leave a comment below. Let's help each other so that we can all get that perfect nights' sleep!
